Empowering Future Leaders: Dade County Federal Credit Union’s Gen-You Committee at the Women of Tomorrow Event

March 2025 - At Dade County Federal Credit Union (DCFCU), we are committed to supporting students and empowering the next generation with the financial knowledge they need to succeed. On Tuesday, March 11th, we had the incredible opportunity to participate in the Women of Tomorrow event at Florida International University (FIU), where our Gen-You Committee hosted the engaging and interactive Mad City Money lifestyle simulation.

A Day of Learning and Inspiration

The Women of Tomorrow event, in partnership with FIU and the FIU Women’s Center, brought together mentees from Miami Springs Senior High, Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High, Dr. Marvin Dunn Academy, Lake Worth Community High, and the School of Advanced Studies Kendall Campus. The students had an enriching experience, starting with an insightful panel discussion led by FIU students and graduates, who shared their college journeys and offered valuable advice about higher education.

Following the panel, the mentees explored FIU’s beautiful campus through a guided tour and later enjoyed lunch at the 8th Street Café, where they had real conversations with FIU students about college life, academic challenges, and career aspirations.

Financial Literacy in Action: Mad City Money

To round out the day, DCFCU’s Gen-You Committee led the Mad City Money simulation, a hands-on financial literacy activity designed to teach students how to manage their income, budget for expenses, and make informed financial decisions. Through this immersive experience, students took on real-life scenarios—balancing a salary, paying off debts, making housing decisions, and identifying areas where they could save money. The activity was eye-opening for many, highlighting the importance of financial planning and smart money management.

Strengthening Community Relationships

DCFCU’s participation in this event underscores our dedication to being a resource for students and the broader community. By fostering financial literacy at an early age, we help ensure that young individuals are equipped with the knowledge they need to make sound financial decisions both in college and beyond. Our collaboration with Women of Tomorrow and FIU exemplifies our ongoing commitment to building meaningful relationships that uplift and support future leaders.
