Miami, FL – August 29, 2019

Dade County Federal Credit Union’s efforts to build a connection between the youth in the community and their services continues to exceed expectations with the Gen-You Committee.

The Gen-You Committee has worked with 30 different sites and has reached an astounding 2,000 students so far this year alone. Becoming deeply involved in the community has allowed the Committee to see the importance of providing resources to those who work directly with the youth.

In 2018, the Gen-You Committee established Dade County Federal Credit Union’s first Back to School Drive. They wanted to reach out to different schools in Miami-Dade County to provide school supplies to students for the following year. With the efforts of the credit union’s employees and Members, 2,000 supplies were donated to – Santa Clara Elementary, Norland Elementary and Goulds Elementary. Paola Chigne, the Marketing, and Youth Development Director and Jessica Vasquez, the Gen-You Community Liaison, hand-delivered the supplies themselves.

This year, the Committee was able to collect 3,000 supplies and donated them to – Rainbow Elementary, Norwood Elementary, Eneida M. Hartner Elementary, and West Homestead K-8 Center. “The assistant principle at Norwood Elementary was extremely appreciative and the students will appreciate all the supplies as well,” said Krystal Fernandez, a fellow Gen-You member.

In addition to donating school supplies, the Committee gave away book bags filled with school supplies during the Kiddos Magazine 6th Annual Back to School Event at the Falls.

“Our priority is the youth in our community. Anything that we can do to help them become successful, you can count on the Gen-You Committee to be involved some way, somehow” said Jessica Vasquez.
